In this episode we discuss how Nikol Grishin is pursuing her Master of Science in Kinesiology program at UBC beginning in the Fall 2020 semester.
Nikol is a recent UBC graduate with a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology with a specialty in Health Science. She explains how she obtained volunteer positions during her undergraduate degree as a Project Manager for Special Olympics BC, a private Physiotherapy Assistant, and a Research Assistant at the UBC Cognitive and Motor Learning Lab and at Vancouver Coastal Health.
Not only did she work extensive hours as a volunteer, she was also this past year’s Kinesiology Undergraduate Society (KUS) President, and is currently a Lab Coordinator at FAST Lab and a Project Assistant at BC Children’s Hospital. She also gives advice for senior undergraduate students who are considering health and research fields.

In this episode we discuss how Lois Lee navigated her undergraduate career to get accepted into the University of Toronto's Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MScOT) program, and how she has transitioned into working as an Occupational Therapist in Canada.
Lois Lee completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University and her Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. During her time as a student, she accumulated a wealth of experience with volunteer roles such as events coordinator for UNICEF at SFU, a functional tester for Special Olympics BC, and the Occupational Therapy program rep on the University of Toronto’s Graduate Student’s Union. Leading up to her career as an OT, Lois has worked as a student Kinesiologist at West Point Grey Physiotherapy Clinic, Adaptive Ski Instructor for the Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports, Personal Trainer at SFU, Research Assistant at UBC in the department of Occupational Therapy, and program worker at the Developmental Disabilities Association.
During her graduate program, she completed placements in Canada and abroad at 4 different organizations. Since graduating, she has discovered a passion for working with kids and is currently working as a pediatric OT at Footprints Therapy in Toronto.

Justin attended McMaster University in Ontario, Canada where he got his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. He is currently studying at Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina, USA. Lea Ramsay completed her Bachelor of Science while studying Kinesiology with a Certificate in Health and Fitness from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. She is currently studying at the University of Western States looking to complete the Doctor of Chiropractic Program while concurrently working towards her Master’s of Science in Sports Medicine. She talks about her experience applying and getting into chiropractic school in the United States, touching up on fees, financial aid, requirements, and visas.

In this episode we discuss how Andrew Pauls was able to get into UBC's Medical School after studying at Simon Fraser University while playing NCAA Division II football.
Andrew is a former NCAA Division II varsity football player who graduated with Honours in Biomedical Physiology from SFU. He has been working as a paramedic for over a year after receiving his Emergency Medical Responder Certification from the Justice Institute of BC. He explains how he was able to transition from the student athlete life to paramedic, and he also details what his application process was like as a successful candidate to get admitted into UBC’s Faculty of Medicine for the Fall of 2020.

In this episode we discuss how Clarence Le and Matt Liao have become CSCS' (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists) out of their UBC Kinesiology Undergrad. They talk about how to obtain the certifications needed to become a personal trainer and a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Clarence Le graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology, and has a diploma in Sport Science from Douglas College. He is a certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has experience in the field as a former intern Strength and Conditioning coach at the UBC Varsity Weight Room and Better Bodies Club, and is now working as a S&C coach at Saltus Athletic Academy and at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
Matt Liao also graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist and was a Student Coach at the UBC Varsity Weight Room, a Coach at Jump Gymnastics, and a S&C intern coach at the Richmond Olympic Oval. He is now a Kinesiologist and S&C coach at Innovative Fitness.

In this episode we discuss how Malcolm MacRitchie became a Kinesiologist, and is now pursuing a career as a Firefighter in British Columbia.
Malcolm tells us how he completed his undergrad, studying Kinesiology with a concentration Active Health and Rehabilitation at Simon Fraser University. He has been a personal trainer for 5 years at SFU, an Exercise Leader at the YMCA, and most importantly a Kinesiologist at Strike Recovery & Performance. Malcolm explains what Fascial Stretch Therapy is, and his decision to pursue a firefighting career in the future.

In this episode we discuss how Parneet Sidhu was able to bring Motionball for Special Olympics to Simon Fraser University (SFU).
As a senior at Simon Fraser University in BC, Canada, Parneet is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Active Health and Rehabilitation. She talks about her experience working at Kintec as a Fitting Expert and as a Physiotherapy Assistant at Kids Physio Group, learning about the business side of kinesiology careers, as well as developing rehabilitation techniques for children. Parneet also discusses how she was able to start a Motionball chapter at SFU, collaborating with a national not-for-profit organization aimed at introducing the next generation of donors, volunteers, and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement.
